How to Make Your Home Office Space More Liveable

A home office space is quite common and can be a challenge to those of us who live in smaller spaces. A one bedroom apartment in the city can often be 600 square feet and the decision to give up the bedroom or living room to office space is something we have to live with.

I attended IDS West (Interior Design Show) this past weekend. The majority of exhibitors were aiming for the large homes and luxury condo market, I was able to find a few gems that could make the smaller home office space more liveable. Imaginative lighting was everywhere. Three of my favourites.

One of the first booths I noticed was Instant Bedrooms who will custom build a wall bed unit that can do double duty as your office during the day, leaving your living room for relaxing and entertaining. The table drops down to provide you with working space. You can also configure the unit with two bookshelf units on either side of the bed to house your computer equipment and files.

Blu Bathworks displayed bathroom units for small spaces that used every available square inch of space for storage and looked good at the same time.

Now your office has been moved to the bedroom, you can put some fun things in your living room.

On display was a model laneway house .. just under 300 square feet. You’re going to have to be super organized to live there.
